Waste Reduction
Reducing waste that goes to a landfill has long been an integral goal of our manufacturing operations. We separate and recycle oil, paper and corrugate. We are able to internally use nut byproducts in our operations or upcycle such byproducts to create a circular economy which establishes a more sustainable production model.
Pecan shells from our Selma, TX shelling facility are burned in a biomass boiler to generate steam heat for processing.
Walnut shells from our Gustine, CA shelling facility are used at dairy farms for animal bedding. When the bedding is soiled it is then mixed with other materials and composted.
Food not suitable for human consumption is repurposed in our Fisher Retail store and sold to customers as wildlife food for animals.
We generate around 280,000 lbs of oil byproduct per year during our manufacturing process. All of our oil byproduct gets a second life as either biodiesel fuel or methane gas.
