1922 Gaspare Sanfilippo and his son, John, started a small, storefront pecan-shelling company in Chicago, Illinois.
1929 The first Sanfilippo facility was built in Chicago.
1959 JBSS expanded into a larger downtown Chicago facility and began its diversification into other nut types and new products by expanding into oil roasting for the ice cream industry.
1968 The first private label customer was acquired. In addition, the company’s pecan-shelling and oil-roasting production moved to Des Plaines, Illinois.
1974 JBSS acquired Evon’s® Brand and entered retail market.
1980-1981 JBSS became a full-line nut supplier. Its new corporate and production facility was built in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
1986-1987 A shelling/blanching and processing facility was built in Bainbridge, Georgia, making JBSS a vertically integrated supplier of runner-type peanuts.
1990-1991 JBSS expanded into the global market and in 1991, made its Initial Public Offering.
1992-1995 JBSS acquired Texas-based Sunshine Nut Co. and Crane Walnut, which expanded its West Coast presence. In addition, a facility was built in Garysburg, North Carolina, making JBSS a vertically integrated supplier of Virginia-type peanuts.
1995 JBSS acquired the Fisher Nut brand and the Flavor Tree® brand.
1996 The Fisher Chef’s Naturals® brand of baking nuts was awarded “Best Tasting Nut in America” by the American Tasting Institute® (ATI).
2000 Fisher partnered with the Chicago Cubs® to become the official peanut sold at Wrigley Field.
2001 New initiatives including Fisher Peanut Butter and Fisher Basics were introduced to the market, offering a good-quality product at everyday low prices.
2002-2003 Fisher introduced Fisher Nature’s Nut Mix and Fisher Family Cans.
2004 Fisher began a national health campaign promoting the health benefits of nuts with the FDA-allowed qualified health claim. Fisher introduced natural unflavored, unsalted nuts to sprinkle on salads and other favorite foods.
2005 Groundbreaking occured on a new 1 million sq. ft. corporate headquarters and manufacturing and distribution center in Elgin, Illinois.
2006 JBSS’s Fisher brand launched its new Fisher Fusions® and Snack Naturals line.
2007 Corporate headquarters and facility consolidation were completed, and the facility grand opening occurred in September.
2008 JBSS’s Fisher brand launched a new Culinary Touch® Salad Topping line.
2009 JBSS’s Fisher brand introduced over 20 new products to its portfolio including an exclusive line of cooking and baking nuts under its Fisher Culinary Touch Cooking and Baking Add-Ins and Toppings Line.
2010 JBSS acquired Orchard Valley Harvest.
2013 Achieved $700MM in Sales. Set up sales office in China.
